Saturday the 19th marked the date for the 14th worldwide sketchcrawl.
Diane and I decided to take part and chose Ely, Cambridgeshire as our location, we were met by Emma-Jane on our arrival.
After a browse in Tindalls at the delicious art materials where I purchased a bottle of black ink, our first stop was a chair opposite Starbucks.
We then moved onto the green outside the cathedral where The Chantry caught my eye.
From the same spot on the grass I turned to sketch the entrance to the cathedral while E-J finished her sketch of the yummy chocolate cake I had purchased in the market.
It was a most enjoyable day spent in great company, I'm so pleased Emma-Jane managed to come along. As always, I wish I had sketched more but the afternoon wind, good conversation and hot coffee shared our day.
I hope to go back to Ely with my sketchbooks in the not too distant future, such a fabulous town scattered with fantastic architecture and then of course there is the cathedral itself, I visited last year, such brilliant workmanship surely deserves another entry in my sketchbooks!

LOL...Dave, I wanted to buy so much more but it would have meant carrying it around all day and besides...They didn't have the new tinted/coloured charcoals that I wanted. There was no way I was leaving an art shop without buying SOMETHING! LOL!

Do you mean that new Derwent tinted charcoal? You'll have to tell me how you get on with that...looks interesting!
Yes, that's the stuff Dave. I love using charcoal and I'm interested to see if these new pencils act the same way as willow/vine sticks.
I will, of course, let you know how I feel about them when I finally purchase some.

Have you tracked down the charcoal pencils yet?
I found this on Wikipedia:
"Chantry is the English term for the establishment of an institutional chapel on private land ... where a priest would chant masses."
So now we know.
So when are you coming back, then?
LOL...I looked the word 'chantry' up when I got home too E-J!
I returned and sketched the view from the Almonry the other day but I had my youngest with me and we visited the cathedral and went up the Octagen Tower so our day was pretty packed.
Hope to be back some time after half term...I'll call you! ;)
BTW...The tower tour was absolutely brilliant!!!
It always amazes me how you can take just a little part of something big, and make it a work of art in itself. These are beautiful as always.
