PECKOVER HOUSE, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. UK

I spent a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Peckover House, a National Trust property situated on North Brink in Wisbech. On this visit, I decided to make the most of the good weather and sketch around the wonderful gardens.

All of my sketches were created in my A4 Venezia sketchbook with an 'Artline' pen and some are coloured using a St. Petersburg set of watercolour pans.

So lovely, Anita. I especially like the middle one---you've done so well with light and deep space here. Each of these has a very nice quality of immediacy--that means to me that they are very successful!

Such lovely sketches, as always Anita. The view throught the gate is just beautiful and I agree with Laura, you did wonderful on depth and light and color.

Excellent sketches. I do like the way you often sketch a detail or a corner of a building. I'm going to have to try to do this more myself.

Thankyou Laurel. The gates have more colour on them which didn't pick up the scan, for some reason it has decided to ignore my blues today!

Thankyou Ronell!

Thanx Dave. I love the little decorative features on old buildings, something the newer constructions fail to have despite all our advances.

Three sketches at one place! That's so good. I love the top sketch...no, I love all three!! I'll have to make a habit of checking your blog, not just waiting for your sketches for the "scavenger hunts."

Joan, thankyou so much for visiting my blogs and taking the time to comment, it is much appreciated. I'm delighted you enjoyed your visit enough to return again.

Such beautiful sketches, all of them. I'm curious, tho, and I may have already asked this, but I'm going to again... do you add the color on site, or do you wait and add it at a later time?

Thankyou Pthalo.
I do both.
Sometimes I colour on location, sometimes I'll add just a tiny bit of colour on each item as a guide for when I get home and sometimes I'll write the colours in pencil with little arrows leading to where they need to be. It all depends on time.
I like to grab as many sketches from life as possible and adding colour on location means spending more time on one piece, so if I'm somewhere I can't access again with ease I make notes and colour at home, using my time wisely making numerous sketches instead.
In this instance, the gate scene was coloured on location and the little pot on my return home. Peckover is close to me, so I was in no hurry! ;)
