MY GARDEN

Ink and watercolour in A6 Venezia sketchbook

“The optimist sees the rose and not its thorns; the pessimist stares at the thorns, oblivious to the rose” ~ Kahlil Gibran

Me?...I am an optimist...There are no thorns on my rose!

I was elated to be able to enjoy the garden for a spell today after the incessant rain that has tormented each passing day. Everything, including the weeds, looked luscious and green against the blues and purples flowering in the beds below them. Thistles stood proud, claiming their spot in my absence, displaying their sharpness smugly as if to realise their victory. The damp ground beneath my feet played a melody upon the soles of my old suede friends and the sky, busy with birds and a valiant butterfly, carried the sweet smell of life.

What a beautiful rose - the colors are so rich and saturated - just like after a long rain. As usual, I love your line work. My favorite part of looking at one of your drawings is being able to see those lines up close, they're just enchanting.

This is wonderful! I love the warmth of the shadow on the rose itself against the cool background. Great work!

Such great use of color here. Wow, the blues in the background really bring the rose forward, almost off the page. And such a lovely description of your garden. You make me feel as though I am there! Here's to being an optimist!

I love the ink and wash on these. It captures the simple lines and colors of the rose. What more could you want?

Anita, I'm so far behind - thanks for your kind comments on my blogspot.

I love your rose painting. And I love the smell of my garden after rain. Everything seems so replenished and fragrance abounds.

I so enjoy sharing your travels with your sketchbook.
