MY DOORSTEP

The sun shone today and the rain held off, so I braved the Autumn chill and sat upon my doorstep for a while with a sketchbook and my Lamy fountain pen filled with red/black Noodler's ink.
The apple tree has struggled for light with the climbing rose bush and the laurel this year, both need a good trim. However, against all the odds, it has produced a little fruit.
I picked one of these rough, miss-shaped beauties today and plopped it next to some bright, plump berries to create the sketch above.

My attention then turned to my parents house. Just across the yard with nothing and nobody between us but grass and hedge, my children have enjoyed the freedom of being able to safely pass between the two homes throughout their childhood.

Nice work as always!
My husbands family lived "across the yard" from the grandparents. My daughter and her family moved from "across the yard" after 7 years. Its wonderful to have family close and a safe yard for children to run and play.

I see you've set up an online shop - best of success with that, and hurrah for the internet, making it easier not to have to rely on snooty (and clueless) gallery owners! ;-)

It looks as though I will soon have a free afternoon each week ... sketching on location with you is now a distinct possibility, even if it's only here in Ely! I haven't arted all summer and am itching to try out my Rembrandts.

What lovely drawings! It's wonderful that you took the opportunity to step outside and capture a little bit of the world around you. Nicely done.

Two lovely sketches. I love the realistic imperfections of the fruit. Your childresn are lucky to have grandparents so close. I grew up with mine in the same house, and they were such an important part of every day.

Thankyou Lin....I couldn't agree more, it allows them a certain freedom they wouldn't have experienced.

Thanx EJ.
Ooooh, give me a call as soon as you're free, the weather is changing now but I'm sure we can come up with some genius location even if it's only Starbucks!

Thankyou Andrew

Thankyou Joan. We have moved so far away from the 'extended families' we used to be that we are all complete strangers nowadays...I think they are lucky too!

Lovely sketches, Anita! :)

How lucky you are to have your parents live just across the yard.

Nicely done, Anita. That noodler's ink has a really nice effect.
