SPIKE AND VIOLET, March, Cambridgeshire. UK

My hair is long and every time I decide to have it cut and the receptionist at the salon I am calling says 'Sorry, nothing today but I can fit you in next....' I tell them I'll check my diary and call back...which of course I don't, until the next time I decide I really need a hair cut, when the whole scenario starts over, this has been going on for two years!

Finally, I managed to get an appointment and keep it but I had an hour to kill before my stylist was free so I sat outside Panini's Cafe in March town with a long, hot, latte and sketched the front of 'Spike and Violet' hair salon. Once I finished my coffee I went across and sat inside the salon on the comfy sofa where I sketched one of the chairs before Lucy called me over to tackle my locks.

Love the way you handled the reflections in the window of the salon. And I second Joannie - how DID you get that texture on the chair? Amazing.

As for the hair story - I had to giggle as you are telling my story exactly. I think I manage one real haircut a year if I'm lucky, with several attacks on my bangs with the kitchen scissors in between. Good thing long hair can be tucked up so no one notices...

These are great sketches. I need to get my hair trimmed. It's long, too, but I have yet to find the courage to cut it short. So, I just get my bangs trimmed. These are just wonderful.

I'm glad to see someone else has scheduling problems like me. Great job on the reflections in the window of the shop, and a very nice job on the styling chair. I'm glad you put your waiting time to good use.

I'm loving the colours in these two - they are both excellent. The colours go so well with the name of the shop too. Brilliant Anita.

Thanx Joan. My idea of scheduling is waking up and deciding I'll do THIS today, sadly the world is not always in agreement!
